We recently had the amazing opportunity of chatting with Joshua Rush from Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack.” Joshua opened up about his start in the entertainment industry, working on “Andi Mack”, filming, and more!

Check it out below!

1. How did you get your start in the entertainment industry?

I got my start in Houston, Texas! My mom is a video producer (of a different type) by trade, so she noticed I was a real ham from the start! She was the one that got me a coach and an agent in Houston, and then we tried it out in Los Angeles!

2. What was your first project?

My first project ever was a commercial in Spanish for SafeCo! I was really young back then, but I still have very fond memories of shooting that commercial!

3. Can you tell us about “Andi Mack”?

Andi Mack is a modern-day coming of age story about Andi, whose life gets turned upside down when her sister comes home and reveals a big family secret!

4. How would you describe your character?

Cyrus Goodman is one of Andi’s two best friends. He’s quirky, not athletic, and generally just a little awkward. He’s got a sense of humor that can make just about anyone laugh. Cyrus doesn’t fit in with anyone but Andi and Buffy… and he wouldn’t want to anyway.

5. How are you similar and different to your character?

I really felt a great connection to him that grew over the course of the season and through the course of the auditioning process! It’s been a joy to give him a voice. My first impression of him was “wow, this kid sounds a lot like me!”

6. What has been your favorite episode to film so far?

I loved shooting episode 4! It actually comes out this Friday (April 21st)! The dancing scenes were really fun to shoot!

7. What makes “Andi Mack” stand out from other shows?

I think Andi Mack is very real! It’s very special to have a show that touches on real family values and talks about things that could really be happening next door! I think it’s exciting and cool!

8. What can fans expect to see on upcoming episodes?

Fans can expect to see the best dance moves they’ve ever seen from me. Their eyes will be dazzled by all THREE of my dance moves!

9. Do you have any other upcoming projects?

I’m really focusing on Andi Mack for now! It’s been my focus and my prize for the last long while!

10. What are your social media accounts where your fans can follow you?

My social media is mainly under @JoshuaRush (Twitter, Instagram) and @TrueJoshuaRush (Snapchat and a few others). My Tumblr is persongoingfast.tumblr.com, and my Facebook is /JoshuaRushOfficial. I do a few live streams once in a while on my Instagram, so your best chance at getting a response from me is there!

  1. Can you tell us about your Disney 😄 show “Walk the Prank?”

Walk the Prank is a really funny show about four kids who have a popular online hidden camera show where they prank people. What makes it different is that we prank REAL people, so the show combines scripted comedy and real-life pranks.

  1. How would you describe your character Bailey?

Bailey is edgy, tech-savvy and sarcastic. She is one of the guys but definitely think girls rule the world!

  1. What are the similarities and differences between you and your character?

Actually, I’m pretty much just like Bailey but maybe a little less sassy. She calls the principal by her first name—I would never do that!

  1. What has been your favorite episode to film so far?

My favorite episode was “Blind Date,” where I find out that Uncle Will has a date with my mom. Bailey is NOT happy about that, so it was fun for me to act nervous about the possibility of him being my stepdad.

  1. You’re also a musician, can you tell us about your music?

I come from a very musical family. My parents have a band, and I started doing a few songs with them around age 9. I got a guitar last year and a ukulele this year, and I love to play both. I also enjoy songwriting and I’ve starting working on some original music that I hope to release at some point next year.

How would you describe your sound?

I’ve always had a raspy speaking voice, so my singing voice has a little bit of grit in it! Most people are surprised when they hear me sing, because I sound older.

  1. Where do you post your singing videos?

Recently I started a YouTube channel (Jillian Shea Spaeder) for my cover songs (and hopefully my originals at some point!). I also do some 15-second versions occasionally on Musical.ly.
